St Peter's School is a Catholic primary school. Although fully integrated into the state education system, our school retains its right under the Integration Agreement with the government to maintain and preserve its Special Character.
St Peter's School exercises its right, in all its programmes, policies and practices, to live and teach the values of the Gospel. The new Religious Education curriculum is taught in all classrooms in the school and is well-resourced. Children participate in a variety of liturgies during the year. On three occasions during the year, we celebrate a school mass on a Sunday. These celebrations, usually Palm Sunday, Pentecost and Advent, involve children in singing, instrumental music and drama. On these joyful occasions, almost all school families are present and these are wonderful community celebrations. The prayer life of the school, at both classroom and staff level, is strong. The school enjoys the active and regular participation of the parish priest and the parish pastoral worker in classroom programmes.
Our school actively promotes a partnership, between home and school, in the education of children. We value quality communication between parents and teachers so that the enhancement of children's achievment, and the maintenance of a safe and healthy social and learning environment, becomes a shared responsibility.
Our school values excellence of achievement. High standards of performance are evident in all classrooms and teachers engage in quality professional development to ensure up-to-date curriculum knowledge. By a variety of measures, children in our school develop excellent knowledge, attitudes and values, especially in the core areas of literacy and numeracy.
We believe in the importance of providing a varied and balanced progamme for the children in our school. All children participate annually in a major production and this generally also features opportunities for children with strengths in instrumental music to perform. Children in the school, especially at the senior level, participate in a variety of sporting activities and have contact with children from other schools in annual tournaments and championships.
We believe that all children learn best when they feel happy and safe. We endeavour to implement practices which ensure that this is the case. The enjoyment of learning, and of one another's company, is evident in all classrooms.
Our school belongs to all in its community. The Board of Trustees and the Parent Teacher Association are both very well supported and make significant contributions to the quality of school life. Parents, children and staff are proud of their school.
We encourage frequent parent/teacher meetings.
