Keeping a Safe Environment

We need our children to be physically, mentally and emotionally safe. This is of paramount concern and systems are in place in the school to acheive this aim. To learn to their full potential our children need to maintain a high level of wellness and we share this responsibility with parents.

Growing in Discipleship:

  • We teach skills of group dynamics, colloboration, problem solving and an awareness of one's self.
  • We encourage self-awareness, tolerance and respect towards others.
  • We expect all people in our school to act with, Common Sense, Consideration, Co-operation, and Courtesy.
  • We want a happy relaxed school to support our quality learning programmes.
  • Children need permission from a teacher to leave the school grounds during school hours.
  • Visitors to the school please report to the school office upon arrival.

Physical Safety:

  • Children are encouraged to recognise their own skill level and to set appropriate boundaries and constraints on their activities.
  • Risk taking is encouraged in a supervised environment that offers the appropriate support.
  • Additional rules are established when necessary.
  • Teachers receive ongoing training and instruction especially in the area of sports injuries.
  • When outside instructors are used, they will have the appropriate expertise.
  • Accidents are monitored, hazards identified and when possible eliminated.

Mental and Emotional Safety:

  • We shall develop a caring and supportive environment.
  • Disability and difference will be respected
  • Positive approaches that work from the children's strengths and abilities will predominate.
  • Competition will focus on an individual's strength and acheivement rather that comparison.
  • In all classes we shall teach programmes to raise self esteem, develop friendships, eliminate bullying, encourage collaboration, eliminate gender issues and racism, and to develop skills to resolve disputes.

Parking Around the School

  • Please DO NOT drive into the school grounds or the carpark at the rear of the school as the driveway is used by pedestrians.
  • Please DO NOT park in the restricted handicap parks unless you have the authority to do so and can display the required sign on your windscreen - these are located in front of the Parish Centre.
  • The Beckenham Street school gate is opened each morning by a monitor at 8.40am.
  • Parents using Fisher Avenue are asked to ensure that they do not park on the yellow lines and that children are not called to cross the road to waiting vehicles.
  • If children are dropped off on Fisher Avenue we encourage the children to use the pathway along the east side of the church as this is much safer.
