Enrolment Procedures

Any parents who intend enrolling their children at Saint Peter's School please contact the School Office Phone: 332 7598. to have your name entered onto our enrolment or waiting lists. This indicates your intention of enrolment.

For new Entrants (those children coming up to 5 years old) wishing to confirm their enrolment at school please contact the school office in the year prior to your child's 5th birthday. An 'Application for Preference' enrolment must be obtained from our Parish Priest, and once this has been obtained please bring this and other relevant enrolment information to the school office and make an appointment to see the Principal and to view the school.

Applications for non-preference positions may be made to the Principal.

Most children commence school of their fifth birthday. Parents will be contacted by the Room 1 Teacher, Mrs Sandra Shamy, prior to your child's starting date to begin pre-entry visits.

To enrol children who have already commenced at another school, please contact the school office.

Classification of Pupils

Year 0 - part of first year in which a child began school

Year 1 - first complete year at school

year 2 - second year at achool

Year 3 - third year at school etc...

  • Most children spend two to two and a half years in the Junior classes.
  • Once a child is classified then it may be assumed that he/she will move automatically each year to the next class level.
  • The classification of Junior children is considered during the third term of each year by the Principal, and class teachers. Factors taken into account when classifying children are - age, school progress, school attendance, health and physical development, social and emotional development.
  • If parents have any queries about the placement of their children, then they should contact the Principal.

Attendance Dues and Family Donations

Attendance Dues:

Attendance Dues are a legally binding charge on all parents and caregivers who have chosen to enrol their children at a Catholic school. In the Christchurch Diocese the Attendance Dues are $33.75 (incl. GST) per term for each child. If parents have more than three children in the school, payment is necessary only for the first three children. This account is sent out at the beginning of each term, from the Parish and on behalf of the Bishop of Christchurch, and should be paid to St Peter's Parish. This money is used by the Bishop to pay costs associated with the land and buildings of Catholic schools in the Diocese. Parents are strongly encouraged to set up an automatic payment with their bank to cover Attendance Dues.

Catholic Special Character Contributions:

This is a tax deductible donation collected on behalf of the Catholic Education Office and used to cover costs associated with the provision and delivery of professional development for teachers, and advisory services to schools, supporting the Catholic Special Character of Catholic primary schools in our Diocese. The amount of this tax deductible donation is $40 per child each year. This donation is collected with, but identified and receipted separately from, the Attendance Dues described above.

Family Donation:

This is a voluntary payment made to the Board of Trustees. It is suggested that this donation be one of $65.00 per year, if you have one child in the school, or $85.00 per year, if you have more than one child in the school. The Board of Trustees will use this money to subsidise the cost of activities not covered by the operations grant provided by the Ministry of Education.

Your donation will be receipted for tax purposes as it is tax deductible.

Activity Payment:

For the convenience of parents, and to avoid frequent requests for small amounts of money for such items as bus trips (eg. to the school picnic) and attending cultural performances in our Parish Centre (eg. a visiting puppet theatre group), we now suggest that parents cover the approximate annual cost of these events with a payment made at the beginning of the year to accompany their school stationery charge. This amount is $15 per child for children in Years 1-2 and $40 per child for children in Years 3-8.
