Euphrasie Barbier, Foundress of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, was born 4 January, 1829, at Caen, Normandy, France.
Pompallier
Bishop Pompallier was born in Lyons, France, in 1801. He was consecrated Bishop with responsibility for Western Oceania (including New Zealand) in 1836. He arrived in New Zealand in 1838, and by the mid-1840s had established a number of Catholic missions. By 1843 the French missions claimed about 45,000 Maori converts.
Ashby
Bishop Brian Patrick Ashby was born 10 November 1923. He was ordained a priest 1 January 1950 and ordained Bishop of Christchurch 5 August 1964. He resigned as Bishop of Christchurch 4 July 1985.
MacKillop
In 1866, at the age of 24, Mary MacKillop founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart in Penola, South Australia, with English priest Father Julian Tenison Woods. Their aim was to serve the needs of struggling members of society.
